When the best-selling car in America in 2025 launches its next generation, shoppers take notice. The 2025 Toyota RAV4 stands out from other compact crossover SUVs with its next-level capabilities and styling. In 2026, with the debut of the RAV4's sixth generation, exciting updates take its appeal to the next level. What are the differences between the 2025 and 2026 versions of the RAV4?

Performance

In 2025, every RAV4 was outfitted with a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder, 203-horsepower engine. The RAV4 Prime was offered as a separate model and featured a plug-in hybrid engine. In 2026, the Prime has been integrated into the RAV4's trim lineup. Now, every RAV4 has either a hybrid or plug-in hybrid engine. The hybrid engines are a front-wheel drive version that gives you 226 horsepower or an all-wheel drive variant that offers 236 horsepower. The 320-horsepower plug-in hybrid engine has all-wheel drive and GR-tuned steering, shocks, springs and struts. In addition to these changes, the 2026 RAV4 Woodland comes with a 3D multi-terrain monitor for under-vehicle viewing. The 2026 version also steps up its game with a 3,500-pound towing capacity.

Appearance

The 2025 RAV4 boasts molded, squared-off wheel wells and side sculpting that trends into flared rear haunches. The grille and bumper turn downward for an aggressive look. The new 2026 RAV4 has a cascading hood that integrates with the headlights. These headlights are outlined on three sides with an LED ribbon. The grille is completely redesigned and now wraps around the entire front end. Some of the 2026 trims have all-terrain tires and 20-inch wheels.

Features

In 2026, the RAV4 adds a larger 12.9-inch multimedia screen, a 12.3-inch customizable digital instrument panel, a heads-up display, and the enhanced Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 tech. Other features offered in both model years are aluminum sport pedals, a panoramic sunroof, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, ambient lighting, heated front seats, a digital rear mirror, a heated steering wheel, parking sensors in the front and rear, an 11-speaker JBL sound system, and more.
